Rated 5 out of 5 by Celtic Bear from great product for great price I was looking for a laptop with a 15.6 screen, because I think it is an optimal size for traveling & working with the Notebook.
I chose this one because I read a lot on the Internet about stability and quality of this product. Firstly it has a great performance. Secodnly price is not high. The most common issue for this model is a problem with drivers for other systems.
I think about downgrade current system to Windows 7, but I think I should have the hard drive image backup to restore it if I cannot find drivers. Also I bought Samsung evo 4 SSD and this combination is great for performance and quite work. Rated 5 out of 5 by metaldude87 from Great computer for an amazing price This laptop is amazing. Very fast and quiet. It has two hard drives.
I thought there was only one. Fast boot up time once you set everything up. Still trying to adjust to windows 8 but im learning. The 12gb of ram make this computer so smooth even though the hard drive is only 5400 rpm. Cant complain about anything yet.
It does get a little warm but not extremely hot. I havent played any games on it yet so i dont know how well it does for that.
It should be good considering it has a dedicated graphics card. I highly recommend this laptop. I also ended up purchasing a 3 year ADH warranty from squaretrade. Rated 5 out of 5 by Rich Student from ASUS N56JR.A+ FOR ME I bought this product for college. Going for Graphics Communication Degree and Visual Arts, this laptop has all the capibility to handle any project with the 2GB Nivida Video and 12GB RAM its a step above the rest lighted keyboard a must and the sound system is top rate with external subwoofer.
It's light weight a satisfies my every need for school. The Windows 8 is alittle different to get to used to but has lots of potential once mastered.ASUS is all I recommend A+ for me. Rated 2 out of 5 by JW from Asus MIA on Support The hardware is OK so far.
Bloatware wants to take over. Asus support does not respond with business level English. Drivers are behind in updates, and no news available for any future support. Driver downloads are sometimes misslabeled, including the release date. Asus support download links can be dead, or take you to a page that prompts you to install Chinese P2P bit torent software (no kidding). Even the automatic product registration app does not work, but there are pay to play services that pop up all over your screen, and act like utilities. Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from With a few mods, this thing is a racecar For $$, this laptop is a steal given the hardware and build quality.Featuring a beefy Haswell i7 processor and a Nvidia GTX 760, this laptop is more than capable of handling last-generation games on high settings, and even many demanding games from this generation on mid.
The speaker system is AMAZING for a laptop and may even be better than my cheap desktop speakers. You even get a little subwoofer to boost your bass. From a hardware perspective, the major disadvantage is the slow 5400 RPM drive.

If you don't need the space of the original drive, I HIGHLY recommend throwing in a 250 GB solid state drive for about $100-150 more. If you are not a techie, however, this can be a bit of an involved process: Windows 8 doesn't let you reinstall directly from a recovery disc/drive. You'll need to:1) Clone the hard drive onto the SSD.2) Reinstall Windows 8 using the recovery disc/drive.3) Use a piece of software like Macrium Reflect to deal with Asus's strange manner of partitioning hard drives.

In short, if you're a tech layperson, it may be prudent to get a shop or a techie friend to do this for you.One other potential con is the battery life: If you use Asus's power-saving mode, you can expect about 3 hours of battery life, possibly longer if Wi-Fi is disabled. This may not be enough for some highly mobile users.Overall, however, this is a very competent machine, and an ideal mid-tier companion for power users and college students who want to both work hard and play hard. Rated 4 out of 5 by dpuscher from Asus N56J I have used ASUS products building computers for many years. I always thought they were a great value and quality product so I had no reservations about buying an Asus laptop when my Toshiba began to struggle.
I was some what disappointed by the quality of the finished product. I was use to smooth operating CD drives and USB ports. This Asus seemed to be rough cut every where. The mic and ext.
Speaker jacks were even difficult to push in or pull out. My laptop came with an external sub speaker.
The plug was some rough to push in or pull out I broke the plug pushing it in. I called Asus and they would NOT warranty it. The laptop came with a 5400 RPM harddrive that I upgraded to a SSD drive immediately.

A computer with the latest i7 and 12 gigs of ram should not be paired up with a dinasour hard drive. This made the computer worth the price. I am not a fan of Win 8 but I added Classic Shell and it works more like Win 7. Overall I am pleased with my purchase but I could not justify a 5/5 rating.
